Western Tuna and Billfish Fishery

The Western Tuna and Billfish Fishery is fished and managed similar to the Eastern Tuna and Billfish Fishery.

Notable exceptions are:

  • the Western Tuna and Billfish Fishery covers the sea area west from the tip of Cape York in Queensland, around Western Australia, to the border between Victoria and South Australia.
  • fishing occurs in both the Australian Fishing Zone and adjacent high seas.
  • the fishery is managed internationally by the Indian Ocean Tuna Commission.
